01 – Architecutre, Art & Culture
SENSE-ROID
 – The University of Electro-Communications (Japan )

They have developed a System composed of a lay figure with tactile sensors to detect the user’s caressing motion, and a tactile jacket with vibrators and artificial muscles to reflect the caressing motion to the user. As a result, users caress themselves through the Sense-Roid. They believe that this self-caressing experience will enlighten people about the value of caressing.

02 – Industrial Design & Simulation
V3S (VIRUAL REALITY FOR TRAINING ON HIGH-RISK SITES) – Heudiasyc – UTC (France)

They havedeveloped a project where the originality is to lies in the coupling ofknowledge models and virtual environments in order to simulate work situationson high-risk sites. This project features the loading of hazardous materials.

03 – Science & Education
AN INTERACTIVE ZOETROPE – Disney Research (USA )

They have developed a project to demonstrate two technologies bringing real-time virtual characters to life. They control the timing of LED strobe lights to selectively illuminate character faces on a spinning platform dependent on human speech, thus animating a character face. A second system animates a holographic virtual face using speech to determine facial position.

04 – Medicine & Health
INDIVIDUAL VIRTUAL REALITY REHABILITATION – HIT Lab (New Zealand )

The goal of this project of this project is to make the transition from a rehabilitation setting to the daily life of the patient as smooth as possible. By using a detailed model of  the  patient’s  target  environment,  clinicians can  better  predict what  a  patient’s  performance  at home/work  place  is  going  to  be.  Besides  the  obvious  aspects  like  the  therapeutic  outcome  and integration  into  a  clinical  context,  this  project  is  largely  concerned  about  the  feasibility  from  a technological  standpoint

05 – 3D Games & Entertainment
THE INTERACTIVE TOPS – The Univ. of Electro-Communications (Japan )

In this project, they proposed an entertainment system that enables the player direct interaction with his top, thereby extending the possibilities of traditional tops. Their system supports virtual physical contact between the player and his top and augments the interaction with visual, audio and force feedback.

06 – Business & Services
3D SCANNER ON IPHONE – Digiteyezer (france )

In this application, you can create 3d lifelike models by simply taking pictures with the Iphone and send them on our 3d reconstruction server on line. Few minutes later you receive your model on your Smartphone ready for printing or publishing over the web.

07 – Transport, automotive and aeronautics
DCNS / SVO SIMULATOR – Reviatech (France)

They developed for the DCNS group a training simulator for submarine on-board equipment operating procedures. Integrated with «Revia Training Software», it allows DCNS to evaluate the benefits of VR technology for their training and knowledge transfer expectations.

08 – Interfaces & Material
AYOTLE FACE TRACKER – AYOTLE (France )

They developed this application for capturing facial movement without markers in real time and in an uncontrolled environment from a single webcam.

09 – Engineering, Assembly & Maintenance
WIT4PRO – CLARTE – Saint-Gobain (France )

It is an autonomous and innovative learning to move mechanized projection technique coating on a building facade.

10 – Real Time Characters & Virtual Worlds
KEYHOLE ? – Tokyo Interaction Center (Japan )

This project gives customers in a cafe an opportunity to make friends with new people through a communication with 3D avatar in «keyhole». We have installed three tables with keyholes at a cafe.

Grand Prix du Jury
INVOKED COMPUTING – The University of Tokyo (Japan)

In this project, they explore the reverse scenario: a ubiquitous intelligence capable of discovering affordances suggested or represented symbolically by human beings (as actions and scenarios involving objects and drawings). An example: taking a banana and bringing it closer to the ear. The gesture is clear enough: directional microphones and parametric speakers hidden in the room would make the banana function as a real handset on the spot.
